Fundraising principles
- Vikes’ main funder is the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, whose support enables the implementation of development cooperation. The Ministry’s funding requires that the organization also contributes its own share to development cooperation financing. This own funding share (10%) is covered, for example, through donations, support fees from partner organizations, and other fundraising activities. Every euro donated to Vikes is multiplied tenfold thanks to the Ministry’s program support.
Use of donations
- Donations are used to support Vikes’ work in Finland and partner countries.
- In 2024, we trained 660 journalists together with 14 partner organizations. Of those trained, 50% were women.
- In 2024, over 60 million rural people in Tanzania and Uganda were reached through radio stations supported by Vikes.
- Through the Women in Media project’s network, over 200 actors were reached during the year in Nepal and Tanzania.
- In Somalia, over 60 journalists, media leaders, and officials were trained in preventing sexual harassment as well as combating disinformation and hate speech.
