Intersectionality in media and communications

This workshop is targeted at young journalists and communications professionals who handle migration and minorities in their work and are interested in gender equality questions.During the workshop we will learn more about intersectionality as an analytical framework as well as a practical tool for inclusive and equitable content production. We will also discuss the opportunities and obstacles for creating more balanced and diverse stories.

What is intersectionality?

Intersectionality is an analytical framework for understanding how aspects of a person’s social and political identities combine to create different modes of discrimination and privilege. Everyone has their own unique experiences of discrimination and oppression and we must consider everything and anything that can marginalise people – gender, race, class, sexual orientation, physical ability.
