VIKES’ inaugural meeting was held 25 November 2004. The foundation was added to the register of foundations in March 2005.
During the term 2009-2010 the foundation is chaired by Juha Rekola, Ombudsman at the Union of Journalists, vice-chair is journalist and managing editor Leena Mallat and executive director is freelance journalist Marjut Helminen.
The foundation’s board comprises representatives of VIKES main founder organizations. Each year the supporting organizations gather in a Council meeting, which elects the board . The chair of the Council for 2009-2010 is editor-in-chief Elina Grundström.
